My watermelon is growing!
For weeks I have been watching the little yellow flowers hoping they would turn into something that even remotely resembles a watermelon. Nothing, nothing then more nothing. Finally, yesterday: pay dirt.
Tiny but a Watermelon Nonetheless
It Looks Like a Watermelon
It’s just a bit smaller. About an inch tall. Maybe an inch and a half. But, it clearly looks like a real watermelon. Here is a picture that can help you better get a feel for the size of these little watermelons
You can see at the tip of the watermelon where the yellow flower is about to fall off.
82 Days to Harvest?
The melons have been in the ground for nearly 60 days. Does that really mean I’ll have watermelon in another 22 days?

Looks like it needs a shave.
Congrats!! At least it isn’t a squash plant you mislabeled, like mine was… ๐
that looks like a weird looking watermelon that you grew!
Dude you got watermelon and it’s going to get BIG. IT looks like the one I grew in a Walmart bag
Captain Garlic
Did you actually ever get big watermelons? I had little ones like that a few years ago and they were so cute, I couldn’t help touching them and holding them. Then they all died. Someone later told me you can’t jiggle or touch a baby watermelon. Now I know.
Trying to subscribe to your blog without success, can you sign me up? Attempting this fall to plant in a new square foot garden. Getting excited!
This could cause them to grow less, flower less, and maybe even
die. Place organic kitchen waste, as well as yard waste
such as grass clippings, leaves, and the like into a compost bin.
Grass clippings are full of nitrogen and break down quickly.
omg, I just started growing stuff and similarly to you I was paying attention everyday to my watermelon plant and today bam, I spotted three youngish watermelons. Here is a pic:
