Green Market Goes to the Dogs

Green Market

A friend and I have a standing date to spend Saturday mornings at the West Palm Beach Green Market.

Besides the fresh air and sunshine, vendors’ booths are filled with good things…  fruits, flowers, seafood, vegetables, spices, baked goods, etc. If you have an urge for a little something to eat, just sniff your way to some really good cooking… ribs, beans and rice, conch, red velvet doughnuts and so much more. Oh, and of course, coffee and live music. There is something for everyone.

Two Legs or Four…

While sitting with coffee and listening to the live music of the day, I noticed how many people, strolling among the vendors, were attached to leashes with dogs leading the way. And why not? It was a beautiful day for human and beast alike.

I had a great time dog watching. Below are some of the canines that crossed my path this morning.

Corn for Thanksgiving

Food, Glorious Food….

This turkey is beautiful! It is my son’s work of art from Thanksgiving 2010.

Today is the day for traditional food… and not so traditional. Tradition is topped by turkey and dressing, but the side dishes vary from family to family. No matter what, everything seems to taste better than usual.

Fried Corn

The pilgrims and Native Americans ate corn in most pictures and stories depicting the first meal of thanks in 1621. Not sure if was fried corn, but that is one way I like it, so that is what I made today.  The most difficult part for me used to be getting the kernels off the cob without spreading them all over the kitchen. A friend showed me how to cut it off without losing half the kernels.

Is that neat or what?!!?

October in Missouri

Birthday Season

Each year in mid-October, various members of the Steinhoff clan head to Cape Girardeau, Missouri, for a few days. Any family members whose schedules are flexible come together to celebrate my mother-in-law, Mary Steinhoff’s, birthday season. 2012 is her 91st birthday.

Mother Nature’s Palate

Along with birthdays, it is time to celebrate nature’s amazing fall colors.

One of the bonuses of the birthday season is that mid-October is the best time to see the leaves change.

On so many trees, orange is the only shade seen from several yards away. It’s only when you get close enough to see the individual leaves that can you see how many ‘jellybean’ colors make up that beautiful shade of pinky-orange.

Yellow Streams of Leaves

Beautiful yellow maples are shedding their leaves so fast, raking is wasted effort. Streams of leaves are created and flow into piles at the curbs and alongside the roads. Makes me feel like I am walking through very large cornflakes. Click on any picture to make it larger, then click on the right or left side of the image to move through the gallery.
